It’s not every day you send an email request to your colleagues asking for bras, but that’s exactly what TravelManagers’ personal travel manager Robbie Barrett, representative for Dubbo in New South Wales did recently, following a recent family holiday to Fiji.

Barrett having been to Fiji five times, decided to experience more of the ‘real’ Fiji for their holiday this year. The family chose Blue Lagoon Beach Resort on Nacula Island, a remote part of Fiji in the Northern Yasawa Islands.

“Nacula Island is now our favourite spot in Fiji. We fell in love with Blue Lagoon Beach Resort and all the people working there that come from the

local village.  This is the real Fiji, untouched with pristine blue waters, white sandy beaches, wonderful snorkeling and best of all we got a fabulous insight into the culture of these beautiful Fijian people. Without doubt it was one of our best holidays yet,” says Barrett.

On one of their village visits, the Barrett family dropped off the school supplies they had taken up, however they quickly realized there was a greater need for the local female members of the village.

“My daughter noticed the majority of women were not wearing bras.  As some of these young ladies worked at our resort we got to know them really well. They explained how difficult it was to get to Nadi and how expensive it is to purchase items such as underwear, bras and personal care items.  The trip to Nadi is four hours each way on the Yasawa Flyer and the ferry trip alone would cost them a week’s wages,” says Barrett.

Barrett explains it was at that point she felt very compelled to help these lovely ladies in Fiji.

“It was my daughter’s idea to start a collection of bras so we can help the Fijian community, specifically women on Nacula Island.  This lead to my quest to collect as many bras that I could, to send back to Fiji,” she says.

Barrett is thrilled with the generosity of the TravelManagers team with over 100 bras having been donated so far.

“Being a personal travel manager gives us the tools, the freedom and the network to make campaigns like this happen and be a success. It really is so great to work with a company that cares about people,” she says.

TravelManagers has a strong culture of giving back to communities.

“We congratulate Robbie for her work within the Fijian community. Her genuineness, proactive and thinking outside the box approach, is an inspiration to all personal travel managers and further demonstrates the flexibility of TravelManagers willingness to encourage and support community involvement whether it be local or offshore,” says Michael Gazal, Executive General Manager, TravelManagers.
