Adding a little spice into the mix of things, youth travel operator, Contiki have introduced a new Southern India itinerary following the incredibly popular Eternal India trip through Northern India that launched in 2016. In 2018, Contiki continues to meet millennial demand by introducing another iconic travel experience to the Asia 2018 program. A completely different side to India can now be explored with the launch of the new ‘In-Depth Explorer’ Southern Spice trip where travellers can immerse themselves into a unique culture and explore temples, tea plantations and a tiger reserve – OH MY!

Southern Spice is the perfect trip for those looking to discover the real India and delve into a completely diverse and authentic travel experience. The new 10-day Southern itinerary will take travellers from Chennai through Pondicherry, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Periyar, Kumbakonam, Kerala Backwaters and Cochin. Travellers can expect a special stay in a Contiki exclusive overnight house boat on the beautiful Kerala Backwaters, as well as exciting No Regrets Experiences to tick off their bucket lists – like viewing a Martial Arts Performance in Kalaripayattu and a taking a Rickshaw ride to Meenakshi Temple in Madurai. Whilst included visits to a spice plantation, tea factory, silk weavers home and bronze casting school ensure Contiki travellers are fully enriched by the colourful Indian culture.

Katrina Barry, Managing Director of Contiki Australia comments, “There’s no place quite like India. The fusion of colour, culture and spirituality found in the North is dramatically contrasted with the vibrant and exotic nature of the South, making this destination so unique and increasingly more popular as it offers such a broad range of experiences for our guests. By introducing a Southern Spice trip into our Asia 2018 program, Contiki continues to connect with all kinds of travellers, bringing all elements of India into the mix. Whether they want to ignite their senses with hearty street food and commotion in Old Delhi, or board a traditional wooden houseboat along the tranquil Kerala backwaters, the choice is theirs”

The 2018 Asia program offers five other refined and improved trips, including China Adventure and the Big Indochina, with an added stop in Chengdu, China to visit a panda sanctuary and the additional visit to the Haven Sai Yok Elephant sanctuary in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. This offering contributes funds towards the wellbeing of Elephants, continuing Contiki Cares, proving the travel brand’s efforts to continually develop their product offering and ensure travellers have the ultimate travel experience in Asia while supporting the sustainability of the local communities they encounter.

Contiki’s Asia product continues to offer four unique ways to stay including central hotels, beachside resorts and unique Special Stays such as jungle tree houses and floating raft bungalows in Khao Sok National Park.  No trip to Asia would be complete without a guaranteed bullet train, rickshaw, junk boat and tuk-tuk to travel around in.

Contiki’s 2018 Asia brochure is on sale now, with savings up to $550, on trips running from January 2018.
