Contours Travel launches campaign to help victims of Peruvian floods

Australia’s longest-running Latin American wholesaler and tour operator, Contours Travel, has launched a campaign in conjunction with the Rotary club of North Melbourne to assist communities impacted by the recent floods in Peru.

The flash flooding, caused by highly unusual, intense rains, has affected the northern coast of Peru, resulting in many casualties and thousands of people in need of aid. Many Peruvians face the summer heat without access to fresh, clean water due to landslides and damage to water filtration plants and normal water supplies.

“Contours travel has a long-lasting relationship with Peru”, Managing Director Ted Dziadkiewcz said, “so we are deeply concerned about the people affected by this disaster and want to help them in a practical and meaningful way.”

Through the Contours Travel and North Melbourne Rotary Club community program, ‘Agua Pura’ (pure water), the money collected will go towards providing Peruvians affected by the disaster with water purifiers. Each filter costs $50 to purchase and distribute. Contours Travel is inviting the public, fellow travellers, travel agencies and businesses to donate so as many water filters as possible.

Since its formation in 1975, Contours Travel has supported community initiatives across Latin America. Through a partnership established in 2012 between Rotary clubs in Melbourne, the ‘Agua Pura’ program has been successful in delivering water purifiers to remote communities in the Peruvian Andes, with guests on Contours Travel’s tours personally handing the filters to locals in Peru.
