Chair of Cooly Rocks On Gail O’Neill said the position of Festival Manager became vacant following the resignation of inaugural CEO Bob Newman earlier this year. Two acting managers were appointed in February to manage the 2015 Festival from 29 May to 8 June 2015.
“We received almost 60 applications for the job and shortlisted eight applicants for interviews in early June,” said Gail.
“The Committee voted unanimously to appoint Tweed local and former CEO of Destination Tweed, Phil Villiers, based on his strong connections with the Southern Gold Coast and Tweed and relationships with key stakeholders in tourism and accommodation industries.
“Phil worked as Corporate Sales Manager at Twin Towns for over 20 years and has had a long term association with Cooly Rocks On as a member of the Executive Committee. He was also Vice Chair of the previous Coolangatta nostalgia festival, Wintersun,” Gail said.
Gail added that Phil Villiers worked alongside Acting Operations Manager Jayne Henry from Aria Events in the lead-up to Cooly Rocks On and the successful delivery of the 2015 Festival.
“We sincerely thank Jayne for her tremendous effort and commitment to Cooly Rocks On over the past four and a half months.
“Jayne has made a valuable contribution to this year’s event and took on the role of Acting Operations Manager at short notice following the resignation of our previous Festival Manager,” said the Cooly Rocks On Chair.
Phil Villiers from Banora Point said he is excited to take up the new position of Festival Manager.
“I look forward to working alongside the Cooly Rocks On Committee and staff to continue the growth of the festival and expand on the benefits it brings to the local economy.
“Cooly Rocks On has grown to become one of the biggest and most highly regarded festivals on the Gold Coast event calendar.
I am pleased to now be a part of Cooly Rocks On and have the opportunity to work with the local business community to deliver another fantastic event from 3- 13 June 2016,” said Phil.
Phil Villiers takes up the role from Monday 6 July 2015.
