Dhamma_Art_001His intention to develp Wat Baan Rai Temple to be a Center of Buddism knowledge for Thai Buddists and foreigners, The Dhamma Park of Nakorn Ratchasima, Thailand was etablished by vision of Phra Thep Witthayakhom or Luang Phor Koon, Master Monk of famous Wat Baan Rai Temple.

His vision is to establish the Dhamma Park to be Dhamma Destination of Nakorn Ratchasima Province and north eastern part of Thailand.

Thep Witthayakhom Vihara is created and builded with Faith and believe in Dhamma of Luang Phor Koon’s followers. The Tripitaka Vihara reflects is hand made by tiny piece of more than 20 millions pieces ceramic mosacs (can be counted as the largest amount of ceramic to be used to build a building in the world). The Vihara is claimed to be the biggest single Dhamma Vihara in Asia. It contains the whole tripitaka contents; The Life of Buddha, Disiplin of Buddist, and the thaught of Buddha (Phra Dham). The content is reflected in the most universal language of the world “Art Language”. Everyone in every nationality and religious can choose to see it as one of master pieces of contempolary art or acknowledge the story behind.

Dhamma_Art_002On 12 July 2013, The Followers led by Mr. Kreingkrai Jaruthavee , vice president of Wat Baan Rai Temple Comittee and Mr. Sampan Sararak, head of art and 200 of artists, organized a ceremony of worship to the protecting gods and to moral support all the workers at the Dhamma park.

Mr. Kreingkrai Jaruthavee, vice president of Wat Baan Rai Temple comittee said that the Vihara has been built since 2011. The Vihara area used to be a 30 rai (about 12 acres) pond. The building itself is a circle shap with 60 meters diameters, Height 42 meters and constructed in 4 storey (including roof top), and a storey of basement. the contruction is projected to be done and open to public in October 2013, hence the month of Birth of Luang Phor Koon (90th anniversary), the master of the temple and believed to be god of northeastern thailand. The building is budgeted to be approximately 300 Million Baht. The temple committee therefore launched earlier series of small image of buddha so called “”Pra Kring Thep Witthayakhom” to raised the fund to support the building of the Vihara.

The value of money is uncompairable to the value of art, difficulty, message of Dhamma reflected on the Vihara. Luang Phor Koon’s followers made it to be one of the largest man made Dhamma Vihara in Asia and maybe in the World with heartfelt to honor to such a venerated monk as Luang Phor Koon, the monk who devoted to “Giving” for all his life.

The most difficult part to accomplish the building is the concentration and patient. For example, to place the tiny pieces of ceramic “1 worker can complete only less than 1 square meter per day”, thinking about along the process from sketching then sculpturized till placing the mosac, in every step need huge concentration and patient really.

Dhamma_Art_005With all these value of the building, the followers of Luang Phor Koon has one main aim is for everyone especially Buddist to come and touch the Vihara, once in their life. The followers believed that just one touch or one visit of the Vihara, people will naturally take some Dhamma behind all the arts and nailed it down to their memory.

The visualize of unique elegance of the Vihara starts from the Front entrance. The Praya Nag Bridge, laid over the pond to bless people who walking through the bridge. The Praya Nag Bridge is a bridge with 2 nineteen heads of Praya Nag 2×19=38 which means the 38 blessing of Buddha. So everybody who recognized that the 2 Praya Nag have altogether 38 heads will recognized the Buddist has 38 blessing or the good deeds to do.

Dhamma_Art_006After cross over the Praya Nag Bridge, there will be 4 Lintel of the four keepers of the world;

  1. INDRA LINTEL: God of the God
  2. Phra Yom LINTEL: God of Judgement “Heaven or Hell”
  3. Phra Pi-Run LINTEL: God of abundance
  4. Phra Ku-Wain LINTEL: God of wealth The column around the building reflects

523 life before Buddha. The wall of 48 square meter each wall reflects final last 10 life before Buddha. all of them are the painting on ceramic mosac completed twice at 800 and 1600 degree celcius. Hard to find such these gigantic art pieces on the mosac.

Furthermore after step inside the building there will be a hall of Last life of Buddha. The six canvas paintings size 36 square meters each could take away your breath with their impact of beauty and stories reflected from the painting.

These are only some part of the art piece established in this space. There are plenty more such as the 84,000 Boh leafs ceiling painting on the third floor and the exhibition of the development of Buddist after Buddha passed away.

The roof top is the 7 meters height of image of Buddha and 5 meters height of image of Luang Phor Koon, both are all gold plated beautifully.

These miracle once in a life time place will be ready for everyone to experience in October 2013.
