Creating A Platform For Industry Partners

The Malaysian Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) is leading the way for events professionals in Malaysia by recently hosting two educational seminars.

Entitled ‘The Incentive Innovation Seminar’ and ‘Using Technology to Achieve Better ROI for Events & Venues’, the seminars were designed to assist events businesses in learning new business practices and to support them in securing international events leads. 71 members of MyCEB’s Industry Partners Programme (IPP) attended the seminars including event organisers, professional conference organisers (PCO) and marketing and communications personnel of various organisations such as Hot Shoe Show & Company, Setia City Convention Centre, and MCI Malaysia.

As part of the exercise under the innovation seminar, participants were asked to create a spectacular welcome event for the Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) 2014 Conference which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 14–17 May 2014. This marks the first time the Conference is taking place in South East Asia and only the second time outside of Australia. It is expected to attract over 600 delegates and is estimated to generate RM 6.4 million in economic impact for the country.

The session which included site inspections and creative implementation, was presented by Mr.David Grant, A widely acclaimed pioneer in the Australian events industry. Mr. Grant provided insights on case studies as well as best practices on event organization, he commented, “Today’s session is truly inspiring, there were lots of people with fantastic ideas for the Malaysian events industry. With more opportunities, I think people will be more receptive to new ideas.”

Realising the increasing importance of technology in business events, the seminar named ‘Using Technology to Achieve Better ROI for Events & Venues’ featured Mr Corbin Ball, who was named one of ‘The 25 Most Influential People in the Meetings Industry 2012’ by Successful Meetings magazine. He equipped participants with key updates on social media, mobile trends, advances in web and new lead technologies. According to Mr Ball, “I hope that through today’s session, participants will embrace technology as a tool to enhance their events. Being connected is rapidly growing and it is more easy to use than people think!”

Ms Ho Yoke Ping, General Manager of Sales and Marketing, MyCEB commented, “This year to date, we have now conducted five educational seminars with IPP members. It is important for MyCEB to consistently organise initiatives to further innovate our industry partners to compete on an international level and propel Malaysia forward in business events.”
