Cruise Whitsundays Appoints Chris Phillips as General Manager Sales and Marketing

Mr Chris Phillips joined the Cruise Whitsundays team this week.

Cruise Whitsundays is excited to announce the appointment of Mr Chris Phillips to the newly created position of General Manager Sales and Marketing.

Chris has enjoyed a career in travel and tourism spanning almost three decades.

Starting as a cadet in tourism for the New Zealand Tourism Board in Australia, he has successfully developed a valuable knowledge for growing businesses across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore – APAC Region for SME, Corporates and Multinationals.

Mr Phillips is a commercially savvy professional with a broad experience that covers sales, marketing, retail brand development, product innovation and commercial operations.

His expertise has been forged leading sales and marketing teams as Head of Marketing for two major Retail Travel Network Groups (NZ and Australia) and as Head of Sales at a National and International level for an International Hotel Group (Millennium Hotels and Resorts) and a Travel Tour Wholesaler.

Mr Phillips commenced in the role Monday, 14 November based in Sydney, Australia, and is looking forward to the new challenge of leading the sales and marketing activity for a commercial tourism operator.

“Like the Cruise Whitsundays business model, I have a passion for continual innovation, and I look forward to bringing that enthusiastic approach to lead the sales and marketing team,” Mr Phillips said.

“I’ve started my first week here in the Whitsundays with spectacular weather and can already feel the North Queensland sunshine inspiring me!” he said.

“Cruise Whitsundays offers such a wonderful combination of experiences and services, with broad appeal, visiting some of the world’s most iconic landscapes – the Great Barrier Reef, spectacular Whitehaven Beach, and the 74 islands of the Whitsundays – who wouldn’t be inspired to take on such a role!”

Cruise Whitsundays Chief Executive Officer Nick Hortle welcomed Mr Phillips to the role.

“Mr Phillips brings a valuable three decades of knowledge and experience to Cruise Whitsundays, and will champion our Sales and Marketing vision,” Mr Hortle said.

“We welcome him to the team and look forward to the opportunities this appointment brings,” he said.

“Being based in Sydney will allow Mr Phillips to maintain major stakeholder relationships throughout the travel trade, with regular and easy flight access to the Whitsundays to spend time here on the ground immersed in our operations.”
