Customized Shopping Experiences for Travelers Expands with Westfield Travel Collection

New retail, high-tech innovations, the latest cuisine and significant renovations are debuting at Westfield Travel Collection Centers in California, Florida, and in 2015, New York City’s Westfield World Trade Center.

Customized shopping experiences incorporating premium service is the signature of all of the Westfield Travel Collection Centers.

“The guest response to the Westfield Travel Collection Centers has been fantastic.  We have seen an increase in the number of visitors, especially international visitors, at all of the participating centers,” said Shaun Swanger, Vice President of Marketing for Westfield Corporation. “Westfield is continuing to identify and present what’s new and now so that Westfield Travel Collections Centers offer the best experience.”

The Westfield Travel Collection debuted in spring 2014 with seven unique U.S. retail destinations. The Westfield Travel Collection has already set a new standard for a guest experience that offers the best in shopping, dining and entertainment. Special programs and services for visitors are available at each location. The program showcases leading shopping Westfield Centers in California and Florida. Here is a preview of what’s new and a look at some of the plans for the future:

Major Renovations

Westfield Century City, Los Angeles is undergoing a refined $700 million vision to become a landmark destination truly international in impact and scale. A new premier fashion anchor, top luxury boutiques and global showrooms for the world’s finest retailers will debut. Cutting-edge interactive technology will be integrated into the unrivaled digital shopping experience. World-class chefs, sensational restaurants, global street food concepts and open-air café culture will add to the culinary experience. A new entry point will incorporate the elegant beautification campaign alongside Santa Monica Boulevard and Avenue of the Stars. Acres of green space, lushly landscaped pedestrian pathways, strolling gardens and a central plaza will be integrated into a predominantly urban environment. A state-of-the art parking and transportation strategy is part of the plan, slated for completion in 2017.

Westfield at Los Angeles International Airport debuted in the new Tom Bradley International Terminal as the centerpiece of its modernization program with 58 premier dining and luxury retail shops, world-class amenities and cutting-edge iconic design. The transformation continues, as Westfield delivers the same level of quality and service to several other terminals at LAX.

Terminal 1, the home of Southwest Airlines, will have 24 world-class dining and retail destinations and a reimagined experience featuring a hip, modern California feel. The $508-million modernization program will be an immersive retail experience featuring unifying retail storefronts with dynamic portals and layering of graphics and merchandising that connects the area with dining. The project will open in phases and will debut in summer 2015.  It will be completed in 2018.

Westfield presents the new Terminal 2 at LAX inspired by LA in Motion.  It will reflect the energy and echo the innovative “always on-the-go” culture of Los Angeles. Terminal 2 is the second international terminal and will house 21 new dining and retail destinations. The three distinct districts begin with Commercial Hub that connects to a Dining Terrace and ends with The Stand, an open, flowing shopping and dining district. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2015.

Terminal 6 at LAX, inspired by LA’s famed Sunset Boulevard, will be a unique dining and retail collection with 18 celebrated local and global brands. Bold architectural lighting, exciting digital technologies and a cohesive use of materials will create an environment aimed at replicating the experience of travelling from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Coast Highway. Project completion is set for 2016.  Westfield is involved in all aspects of design throughout the transformation of Los Angeles International Airport shopping and dining.

Westfield UTC –  La Jolla/San Diego is where a multi-stage transformation incorporating stylish new boutiques, outdoor plazas, beautifully landscaped gardens and alfresco dining is underway. Phase II includes 300,000 square feet of top luxury and international retailers complementing the evolution as a resort-style destination. A new two-level 145,000 square foot Nordstrom is expected to open in 2017.

Technology Innovation

Westfield San Francisco Centre is where Bespoke, an experiment in retail-tech fervor will debut in spring 2105. Pop-up shops, a plug-and-play hackathon venue, spots where shoppers may test unreleased products or attend an event are all part of the design.

Westfield San Francisco Centre and Westfield Valley Fair have introduced guest services utilizing the latest technology that will further enhance the world-renowned shopping experience. Answers on the Spot is a mobile concierge service where guests may text a Westfield Guest Services Ambassador for answers while shopping. Brightbox Phone Charging stations offer free secure cell phone charging while you shop. Language Line gives guests the chance to connect with foreign language interpreters on iPads available at guest services. Interpreters are available to assist in more than 200 languages.  Dine on Time is dining app allowing locals and visitors to order cuisine from Westfield San Francisco Centre’s unique culinary offerings, for pick up or delivery to office, hotel or home within a two-mile radius.

Westfield Century City, Los Angeles: Language Line and Answers on the Spot are also available. Cutting edge interactive technology will be integrated into the unrivaled digital shopping experience.

 

New and Renovated Retail

Westfield Century City, Los Angeles: Increased number of top national and international luxury boutiques.

Westfield Countryside–Clearwater/Tampa, Florida: ProImage Sports, StyleOut and Whole Foods Market.

Westfield San Francisco Centre: Polaroid Fotobar, Asics, Finish Line, House of Hoops by Footlocker, Kipling and I Heart Ugg. Remodeled Club Monaco and Kate Spade. The Centre sells San Francisco branded items featuring its historic 102-foot wide glass dome at Westfield Guest Services.

Westfield UTC–La Jolla/San Diego: A new Nordstrom, styling new boutiques, top luxury and international retailers.

Westfield Valley Fair: Balenciaga and Giorgio Armani.

Westfield at Los Angeles International Airport – Terminal 1: High-end retail and essentials for travelers.  Terminal 2: CNBC shops, Univision, SPANX, eSavvy and InMotion Entertainment.

New Culinary and Entertainment Experiences

Westfield at Los Angeles International Airport will debut Terminal 1 Marketplace, a vibrant dining experience that will feature sculptural origami inspired ceiling. Two full-service restaurants along with casual and grab-and-go food offerings from Los Angeles-based chefs and restaurateurs are planned.

Terminal 2 will be the home of:  SeaLegs Wine Bar, great wines paired with gourmet California share plates; SLAPFISH Modern Seafood Shack, boat-to-plate American seafood; The Pie Hole, made-from scratch pie; Pepita Cantina, a L.A. concept created by Top Chef Mike Isabella; Chinese cuisine at Pick Up Stix; Barney’s Beanery, a classic road house; signature burgers at LA-based BUILT; organic sandwiches and salads with Italian flair at Ciabatta Bar and handmade dough and finest mozzarella at Fresh Brothers Pizza.

Westfield San Francisco Centre is the home of TAP (415), a new casual restaurant concept showcasing gourmet burgers.

Westfield UTC: Palm Plaza features daytime acoustic sets with local musicians.

What’s Next

Westfield World Trade Center will debut as a Westfield Travel Collection Center in 2015 beneath the wings of The Oculus in Downtown Manhattan. Other existing centers will enter the Westfield Travel Collection offering even more shopping options for travelers who seek the best retail experiences.

Westfield is raising the bar on traveler experiences with developments at JFK, LAX, Newark, Houston Intercontinental and Chicago O’Hare airports.
