Cycling Through the South of France

A week’s sojourn in the south of France, cycling past Roman ruins and vineyards and through medieval villages in the beautiful Languedoc region, is the latest bike tour to be added to Cycle Tours Global – the world’s most comprehensive website for holidays on two wheels.

Languedoc cycling imageThe seven-day ‘Backroads of Eastern Languedoc’ tour is a self-guided circuit tour tracing 240km of little-used farmer’s roads, starting in the ancient Roman city of Nimes with its coliseum and Roman temple.

Graded as easy to moderate and available any month of the year on dates chosen by riders, the itinerary takes riders south through French wine country to the 1000-year-old Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and the medieval walls of Aigues Mortes. Heading north along ancient Roman roads still etched with chariot tracks, the route passes through rolling countryside and pretty French villages around Tornac to the historic town of Uzes and a highlight of the ride – the World Heritage-listed Pont du Gard, an imposing, 49m-high Roman aqueduct spanning a river valley and built almost 2000 years ago. Riders spend the last night of the tour back in Nimes.

Pont du GardOperated by Cycling Languedoc, the tour is priced from €1195 per person, twin-share, including six night’s accommodation in hotels along the route, breakfast daily, two dinners, bike hire, daily luggage transfers between hotels and a GPS device to show the way backed by a route book, maps, practical information and local emergency support if required.

Cycle Tours Global – www.cycletoursglobal.com – was launched last year by avid Australian cyclist, Bruce Robertson, as a hub for bicycle tours around the world. Designed to take the legwork out of searching for the world’s best cycle tours, Cycle Tours Global profiles more than 5500 bike tours in 112 countries on six continents in one place and in the same format, providing easy and fast evaluation and comparison.
