Cyclone Oma may have come and gone, but the Sunshine Coast’s beaches remain the same – voted amongst Australia’s best and most popular beaches.

Mooloolaba Beach ranked number four and Noosa Main Beach number seven as Australia’s top beaches according to the latest TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Uniformly recognised by visitors as a “family favourite”, Trip Advisor reviewers praised Mooloolaba Beach for the clarity of the water, the surfing conditions, the helpfulness of the life-savers, the facilities for children and the vibrant café and restaurant scene.

Recent comments included: “Just a truly great beach. Clean, plenty of patrolled areas and naturally beautiful. The promenade and boardwalks are excellent for strolling, exercising & people watching and there are plenty of amenities.”

While temporarily affected by some erosion as a result of Cyclone Oma, Noosa’s Main Beach also won high-praise from visitors for the clarity, warmth and calmness of the water and the famed Hastings Street shopping, dining and accommodation strip.

A Canadian visitor commented: “…this has to be one of the best beaches in the world. The water was clear and a nice 27C. The wind helped to make some nice waves and the sand is fine and deep. There are life guards on duty during the day, change rooms and lots of facility nearby.”

CEO of Visit Sunshine Coast, Simon Latchford, said that while Cyclone Oma did deliver strong wings and choppy seas, the region’s beaches were largely unaffected.

“Mother nature was relatively kind to us and most beaches withstood the conditions very well,” he said.

“To have two out of ten of Australia’s top beaches is testimony to their enduring popularity and attractiveness. There’s a beach for everyone – from high-powered surfing beaches through to family beaches, and our surf life savers are considered amongst the best in Australia.

“While many on the Sunshine Coast might take our beaches for granted, it’s fantastic to read how positively visitors regard our beaches. It provides a really positive endorsement for tourists planning a holiday to our region.”
