Since July 2014, a direct flight service from Danang International Airport to Narita (Japan) will be launched by Vietnam Airlines, operating 4 flights per week (on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday).

As a favorite destination for Japanese tourists, Danang has been known for its gateway to 3 UNESCO Heritage sites in Central region: My Son sanctuary, the ancient imperial capital of Hue and Hoi An ancient town. Moreover, the fact that tourists can travel to Vietnam’s most famous places of interest (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Hai Phong, Vinh, Nha Trang, Buon Me Thuot, Da Lat, Pleiku…) from Danang by taking less-than-one-hour flight is also a strong point of this air route.

Indeed, the number of Japanese arrivals to the city for tourism reason is growing during these recent years. Mr Huynh Tan Vinh, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association and General Director of Furama Resort Danang, detailed: “Last year, the number of tourists from Japan arrived to the city increased by 53% year-on-year to 41,000, making it the third tourist market in Da Nang. So, this new air route is no doubt a great opportunity for the city of Da Nang to attract more Japanese tourists.”

In 2014, Danang wants to become an attractive tourist destination for this market. Actually, the city is giving top priority to launch tourism promotion programs and many travel companies are also promoting a variety of services with a focus on this target. Mr Nguyen Xuan Binh, Director of Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, said: “In order to promote the opening of this air route, in May, Danang city will cooperate with Vietnam Airlines to welcome farm trips and press trips from Japan. We also have plans to organize a Roadshow in Japan to promote the tourism sector in Danang”.

In an attempt to better serve the Japanese tourists, Furama Resort Danang has been recruiting Japanese Relations officer, offering Japanese foods for breakfast, buffet as well as à la carte menus. In another hand, the resort’s website and documents such as flyers and factsheets were also translated into Japanese. Mr Nguyen Duc Quynh, Executive Assistant Manager, Furama Resort Danang, added: “The air route is not only good for our city’s tourism sector but also for Japanese tourists who would love to discover Central’s UNESCO Heritage sites and enjoy our world famous beach on the same occasion.”

Lastly, apart from the tourism positive impacts, the DAD-Narita flight is also believed to participate in the successful cooperation in tourism, trade and investment between Danang and the cities in Japan in near future.
