Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort joined the rest of the world in supporting Earth Hour which was observed last March 25 by switching off the lights in the hotel premises from 8:30 – 9:30 in the evening followed by simultaneous activities that depict the importance of protecting the environment.

The hotel management and staff lit candles in the property’s lobby along with the in-house guests and residents of the Ruwais community. A documentary on climate change and footage of last year’s Earth Hour commemoration was shown to raise awareness on the increasing effect of climate change globally.

As part of the observation, Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort also held a painting activity where children staying in the hotel and residing in Ruwais illustrated their own interpretation of preserving Mother Earth even in small deeds. The hotel also showcased an animation movie for kids that touched upon concerns of human environmental impact, waste management and global catastrophic risks to emphasize on the importance on taking measures to save the environment. In addition, further entertainment was provided with performances such as a belly dance with LED Isis wings, light dance and song production by the hotel staff while canapés and beverages were served to the guests.

The event was also graced by special guests from the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency, Ms. Mariam Ismael Al Zarkani and Ms. Maitha Mohammed Al Dhaher. A cake-cutting ceremony was also enjoyed as the kids cheerfully led the slicing of the cake to conclude the celebration.

Kevin Lawless, Hotel Manager of Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort commented, “We continue to participate in this worldwide observation as part of our contribution to the preserve our environment. We join the call of the World Wildlife Fund Organization to alter our lifestyles in order to save energy and water as the smallest of acts can bring significant impact. ”

As part of Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort’s commitment to environmental advocacies, a number of campaigns and projects were launched such as the use of Food Decomposition machine turning the biodegradable waste to natural fertilizers thus, reducing the hotel’s produced waste and creating non-chemical nourishment for the property’s abundant plants and lush foliage.

Marking its 10th year, Earth Hour is considered to be the largest environmental event in the world, pulling together people around the globe to address a range of environmental issues. Initiated in 2007 by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), this year’s event gathered 7,000 cities and 175 countries and territories.
