Degas House in New Orleans attends 5th consecutive IPW!

June 7, 2017 Trade Events No Comments Email Email

• Degas House, the renowned Museum Home, Studio, Courtyard and Luxury Historic Inn and B&B in New Orleans, will be attending IPW in Washington D.C., beginning June 5th through the 8th

• Degas House is the ONLY home and studio of the French Impressionist Master in the world open to the public.

• Edgar Degas’ mother was a Creole from New Orleans. Following the Franco Prussian War, in which Degas served in the military, our artist was in need of a change of scenery and took his much-needed break in the Crescent City with his maternal relatives and his two brothers, who had previously immigrated to New Orleans.

• While living in this house, Degas created 18 paintings, 4 drawings and wrote 5 letters to his friends and family back in Paris!

• Degas House has been open to the public for 21 years and features many cultural events and activities, including weddings, receptions, corporate functions, a 9-rom European-style bed and breakfast, complete with a Gourmet Creole Breakfast every morning. Degas House also hosts guided tours of the two mansions and the Creole Neighborhood of Edgar Degas’ Walking Tour, all led by Degas three Great-Grandnieces!

• Our latest project includes Degas’ iconic image of the “14 year old dancer” the ONLY sculpture Degas released into the marketplace during his lifetime. Degas House’s plans include reproducing the dancer to appear in the front garden bed of the house, and to be placed on a 4 foot base, forming the perfect photo opportunity for the public. As the ONLY home of Degas in the world, our goal is to educate the public about the over 3000 works of art the artist created in his lifetime. Also, we want to bring the Little Dancer into the open so that the general public can experience the art of Degas in a manner never seen before. With local controversy over historic monument removal, Degas House wishes to defuse politics simply with the art of Degas, suggesting that the beauty is not just celebrating art but celebrating it as a neutralizing positive force in our lives, regardless of where you might live in the world. The art simply transcends the politics!

• Bus and vehicular parking are provided in our parking lot one block from Degas House.

• Degas House Founder and Chevalier will be at the Media Marketplace on Monday and in our booth on the Louisiana Aisle for the remainder of IPW. Contact information 504-975-5009 and david@degashouse.com.
