Aboard a Philippine Airlines flight from Kuwait to Manila, a young woman sat in a window seat, quietly weeping, sad in one way but relieved in another.
The woman was an OFW, which stands for Overseas Filipino Worker. She was returning home, relieved to be heading back to her family but sad because her unscrupulous employers had refused to pay her. Some hardworking Filipinos and Filipinas are cheated in this way, and the woman was one of them.
Her months of sacrifice and hard work abroad had amounted to nothing.
Word got around on the PAL flight and the crew decided to help the woman. They pooled donations among themselves and then asked passengers if they could help out with whatever donations they could afford.
A report in TheBitbag.com relates how a flight attendant presented the woman with the collected money. A fellow passenger, Jrm Jayjay, filmed the scene and uploaded the video on her Facebook account.
The video of this act of kindness has been viewed over 3 million times. It can be viewed here.
As well as the generous gift, the crew advised the woman to seek help from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) on arrival back home in the Philippines. Hopefully they can help the woman pursue her rightful wages.
