The anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) on 9 May 2014 kicked off its “final battle,” before schedule set earlier on 14 May. It has continued demonstrations in Bangkok, calling for reform before election.

The demonstrations are taking place in certain areas, such as Lumphini Park, Government House, and Television Channels 3,5,7,9, and 11.

The National Counter Corruption Commission on 8 May resolved to impeach ousted Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on charges of negligence of duty in overseeing the rice pledging scheme.

The Commission voted unanimously to indict Ms. Yingluck and will forward the case to the Senate for the impeachment process. The agency stated that it had formally warned Ms. Yingluck that the rice pledging scheme could create problems, incur great losses, and allow corruption to take place in every step of the scheme. It also said that there was sufficient evidence to indict her.

The decision of the National Counter Corruption Commission came one day after the Constitutional Court had ruled unanimously that Ms. Yingluck’s order to transfer Secretary-General of the Office of the National Security Council Thawin Pleansri in 2011 was unconstitutional.
