Design Clarity creates hawker-chic dining experience for Din Tai Fung’s newest Sydney location

Award winning Australian interior design company, Design Clarity, has partnered with international Michelin star restaurant Din Tai Fung to deliver an immersive dining experience at their latest location in Sydney’s new Central Park.

Inspired by the restaurant’s origins in Taipei, the interior design draws on the simplified street market/cityscape elements that are famous throughout Asia, and features a theatrical ‘display kitchen’ playing on the celebrated ‘vendors cart’ which showcases the scientific precision and culinary skills that create the edible artwork of each dumpling.unnamed (12)

The dining space transforms into a back lane feel reminiscent of the tourist experience discovering an unexpected food haven beyond the main strip of a foreign city.

Continuing the intrinsic design are hanging planters at the entrance, a nod to Patrick Blanc’s vertical gardens of One Central Park, graffiti-esque twisted Chinese proverbs that wrap exposed brick columns, and sporadic placement of reclaimed objects help craft an unassuming vibe.

The design works to target a younger demographic and open them up to new experiences like the infamous soupy Xiao Long Bao – what American born Chinese chef Ken Hom calls “the best dumplings in the world.”

Kristina Hetherington, Managing Director at Design Clarity is thrilled with the design at Din Tai Fung Central Park and its ability to appeal to, and engage with, the social media savvy demographic.

“Through interior design we are able to make Din Tai Fung’s world class food accessible and tempting to a new, younger demographic.

“Keeping in mind the younger generation is led by social media, the space has been designed to be highly instagramable with supergraphic branding and an authentic hawker street bike cart which local and international DTF fans alike can share via their social channels.”

Din Tai Fung has attracted high praise since it was listed as one of the New York Times top 10 restaurants in the world in 1993. Since then, the accolades have kept coming with Michelin star status awarded and most recently being voted Good Food’s number one dumpling destination in Sydney.
