Last week, Disney revealed upcoming changes for Aulani, its resort located in Ko Olina, Hawaii. The expansions will add even more amenities and entertainment options to Disney’s Hawaiian resort and spa.

Aulani’s plans include the expansion of the Waikolohe Valley pool area – with new water features and more deck space for sunbathing and relaxing – and the addition of new quick-service dining options.

In addition, the Starlit Hui show, a popular nighttime show that blends traditional Hawaiian and modern entertainment, will move to a larger venue to accommodate more guests. “Aulani has been exceptionally well received by our guests, and we are excited to add new amenities,” said Elliot Mills, vice president and general manager of Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. “The resort has one of the most extensive arrays of recreational offerings in Hawaii. From its winding streams and interactive play features to its private snorkeling lagoon, our Waikolohe Valley pool area offers something to delight every member of the family, and we’re thrilled that soon there will be even more to enjoy.”

These expansions to Aulani, which are happening in conjunction with the resort’s final build-out phase, will begin in September and conclude in mid-2013.

Much of the Waikolohe Valley pool area will remain open during the expansion period, including the lazy river, slides, whirlpool spas, Menehune Bridge and Rainbow Bridge. However, Makai Preserve will close permanently this fall, and the quiet Wailana Pool and Wailana Bar will both close for an extended period.

To transition to its new location, the Starlit Hui show will be closed for one month, at an yet-to-be-disclosed period.

More details on Aulani’s expansion will be forthcoming as details become available. For updates and additional information, check with the Aulani website or call 866-242-8945 and press option 2 to speak to a Cast Member.

These changes to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, come right around the time of the resort’s first anniversary. Aulani opened in August of last year, and the resort offers both traditional hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club accommodations.
