Diethelm Travel Group, an award-winning inbound tour operator servicing Asia, today announced its Malaysia office has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sabah Tourism Board to increase joint marketing and promotion of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo as a leading tourism destination to European markets.

While Sabah is home to an abundance of natural wonders, rich tribal cultures, pristine island oases and intriguing wildlife, such as the icon Bornean orangutan, the region is still relatively new to European travellers. With 30 years of experience operating in Sabah and countless international contacts, Diethelm Travel Malaysia, and its Kota Kinabalu branch in particular, is one of the country’s leading inbound operators. Through the MOU, Diethelm Travel Kota Kinabalu will support Sabah Tourism Board in showcasing Sabah as a preferred “Truly Asia” destination to its European partners to encourage new and repeat visitors and ensure successful, sustainable growth for the sector. New Sabah tours and excursions are also in development and will be available soon.

Managing Director of Diethelm Travel Malaysia Manfred Kurz and Datuk Christina Liew, the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah, signed the agreement during ITB Berlin 2019.

“Malaysia is an extraordinarily ethnically, culturally and geographically diverse country and nowhere is this more true than Sabah,” said Manfred Kurz, Managing Director of Diethelm Travel Malaysia. “The stunning region offers a plethora of unique experiences for both first-time and returning travellers and we see incredible potential for further introducing Sabah to the European market. Between Sabah Tourism Board’s wealth of unique experiences and our vast network and direct marketing capabilities, we’re looking forward to inspiring a new wave of travellers to discover this magical destination.”
