Digital Tourism Trends Shape the Future of Tourism

Now that tourism is firmly ensconced in the digital era, delegates at the 2013 National Tourism and Events Excellence Conference will benefit from expert insights from Michele Levine, CEO at Roy Morgan Research and Rodney Payne, Co-Founder and Executive Director at Think! Social Media.

These speakers will reveal how new technologies can keep the industry ahead of consumer travel trends. Hosted by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council and Tony Charters, the conference will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd July and will be an essential opportunity for travel industry members to exchange knowledge, form business relationships and gain digital expertise.

Roy Morgan research into tourism and events industry trends reveals that as day-to-day living moves further online travellers are seeking quality travel experiences when they exit cyberspace and segue into real world leisure time.  Survey respondents disclosed they seek quality experiences on the ground over price.

Back online, travellers post reviews, share photos and leave comments on Facebook, Twitter, tourism and events websites, creating valuable word-of-mouth publicity. Results also showed that when buying flights online, consumers are more likely to shop around for the best price, so that they have more money to spend on quality experiences once they reach their destination.
