Adventure Canada’s new photography programs, collaborations, and workshops help amateur and professional photographers capture priceless moments during cruise adventures in 2015. Travellers will enjoy complimentary access to state-of-the-art cameras and lenses from the experts at Fujifilm throughout the expedition season. Onboard workshops and coaching from esteemed photographers like Freeman Patterson, Andre Gallant, and Dan Bailey are available on select voyages, including the inaugural Mighty Saint Lawrence adventure, from June 14 – June 23, 2015, and iconic Out of the Northwest Passage expedition, from August 20 – September 5, 2015.
“We are honoured to have such highly-regarded photographers like Freeman, Gallant and Bailey aboard the Ocean Endeavour to engage with guests and capture the beauty of our expeditions,” said Cedar Swan, Adventure Canada CEO. “This year’s comprehensive photography program provides an unparalleled experience for our travellers. It is a unique opportunity to expertly photograph both the historic Northwest Passage and Quebec’s North Shore.”
The Mighty Saint Lawrence
For budding shutterbugs, the Mighty Saint Lawrence expedition will feature well-known Fujifilm X-photographer Dan Bailey and Billy Luong of @FujiGuys, who will host workshops and offer instruction on the new Fujifilm cameras.
“I’m really excited to travel with Adventure Canada and live on board the ship,” said Billy. “I’ll be bringing along several brand-new cameras—that aren’t even on the market yet—and I’m looking forward to testing them out with passengers in gorgeous natural settings.”
The expedition highlights the rich coastal regions of Quebec’s North Shore and offers plenty of whale watching opportunities. Between the high cliffs of Saguenay Fjord, travellers will eagerly prime their cameras waiting for a chance encounter of the dramatic and elusive blue whale. Guests can also photograph the famous red cliffs of the Magdalen Islands, in addition to spotting migrating seabirds in several national parks along the route.
The Northwest Passage
For the ideal photo backdrop, focus your lens Adventure Canada’s Out of the Northwest Passage expedition, which begins in Greenland, coasting through bright villages and past larger-than-life glaciers. The scenic journey continues to the bird cliffs at Coburg Island National Wildlife Area, a prime spot for photographers, while polar bear, walrus, and musk ox sightings steal the spotlight on Melville, Banks, and Devon islands.
Photographers Patterson and Gallant join guests aboard Out of the Northwest Passage, helping them frame the perfect shot. Patterson has produced works for the National Film Board of Canada. He is a life member and former president of the Toronto Guild for Colour Photography and co-founded the Namaqualand Photographic Workshops in Africa.
Gallant is a freelance photographer and author of Expressionism: Digital Dreamscapes and other Techniques, Destinations: A Photographer’s Journey, Dreamscapes: Exploring Photo Montages and, Photographing People at Home and Around the World.
Fujifilm’s premium line of X-Series cameras and lenses, along with the FinePix S1 and XP80, will be available for passenger use aboard the Ocean Endeavour throughout the expedition season.
