For a first hand and personal experience with Malawi’s thriving population of wildlife, Lilongwe Wildlife Trust have launched the ‘Malawi Conservation Experience’, offering participants an unbelievable opportunity to work up close with animals and contribute to the country’s conservation success.
The Malawi Conservation Experience is the perfect getaway for animal lovers and adventure-seekers who want more than the typical ‘safari’ experience. The two week trip combines hands-on work with rescued animals at Malawi’s only wildlife sanctuary, with elephant and primate research in the African bush, plus time to relax on the shores of the famous Lake Malawi.
While the trip is ideal for single travellers and couples, Lilongwe Wildlife Trust have an alternative itinerary that is tailored towards including children aged 12 and above who have a love for animals and wildlife. The ‘Family Conservation Experience’ promises to take families on a fun, exciting and educational journey in Malawi.
There is also the opportunity to extend the trip with a safari in Malawi’s Liwonde National Park, or South Luangwa Valley in neighbouring Zambia, both of which offer some of the best wildlife viewing in Southern Africa, courtesy of partners Lake and Lake Safaris.
The itinerary includes spending 6 days volunteering at Africa’s top wildlife sanctuary, working with vulnerable and rescued animals that have been under the care of Lilongwe Wildlife Trust. Lilongwe Wildlife Trust aim to rehabilitate animals in their care to one day release them back into the wild. You will get involved in the everyday running of the sanctuary and assist in some fantastic opportunities with animals.
Following the time at the sanctuary, participants will have 5 days at Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve conducting elephant and primate research with opportunities to get up close with some of Malawi’s most popular animals. After the non-stop hands-on experience, a well deserved stay on Lake Malawi will help participants to rejuvenate at the popular Kande Beach.
If you would rather not stop to relax and prefer to squeeze as much into your trip as you can, then Kande Beach offers plenty of activities including watersports, with canoes and pedalos available to hire. What better way to end your experience of Malawi than on the the golden sands of Lake Malawi!
