Tourism Malaysia Lovers of Arts and culture planning a visit to Kuala Lumpur in September are in for a treat with the launch of the DiverseCity, the City’s inaugural International Arts Festival. ThemedRediscovering Our Heritage, the Festival will kick off on 29 August 2015 and run across multiple venues throughout the city until 4 October 2015.
The month-long Festival features a comprehensive mix of Musical, Dance, Traditional, Comedy and Literary events, which showcase the incredible diversity of Malaysia’s arts scene. Add in over 750 artists from 25 other countries around the world including Australia, Cambodia, France, Hong Kong, Laos, Malawi, Myanmar, India, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, the United Kingdom and Vietnam for a truly international program and Festival Director, Datin Sunita Rajakumar couldn’t be happier.
The Festival Director says the event has been almost two years in the making and she is delighted with final result, citing the ASEAN Pops Festival featuring Malaysia’s National Symphony Orchestra and performances by critically acclaimed Azerbaijani singer, Alim Qasimov as personal highlights. But she says that the jam-packed calendar of international acts, plays musical performances, book readings, poetry recitals and a raft of other activities mean there is sure to be something for everyone. And even better – many of the shows are free of charge.
DiverseCity 2015 will also see the launch of Kuala Lumpur’s first International Comedy Festival, dubbed as Asia’s BIGGEST, featuring 60 of the funniest comedians from 14 different countries performing stand-up comedy in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia and Cantonese.
So, if you are heading to Malaysia in September, DiverseCity 2015 is guaranteed to offer up an unforgettable experience for everyone – big or small, the young at heart or more mature!
