Spread the love

From the Grand Canal to the islands of Murano and Burano, you can experience the highlights of Venice with Le Boat. Sailing with Le Boat is a fantastic way to see Venice without the crowds.

Made up of more than 120 interconnecting islands, Venice is the world’s largest pedestrian city. And with no cars in the city, there are only two options for transport – by foot or by boat. Do as the Venetians do, and combine the two with Le Boat.

Top things to do and see in Venice:

Cruise the Venetian lagoon

During the high season, travelling down the Grand Canal on a local water bus can be crowded. An easy fix is to cruise with Le Boat. Enjoy all the breathtaking experience of cruising the Venetian lagoon, while indulging in the comforts of your private cruiser.

With Le Boat, you can see the city from a different perspective, stop and explore on foot when you like, and even cruise around Venice while sipping a classic Spritz Veneziano at sunset.

Buy Venetian jewellery on Ponte di Rialto

There might be more than 400 bridges that connect the islands of Venice together, but none is as beautiful as Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge).

Witnessing this romantic16th century bridge from the Grand Canal is a must, but don’t miss the opportunity to browse the traditional Venetian jewellery shops found on the bridge.

Bask in the splendour of Saint Marks Basilica

Saint Marks Basilica is easily the most famous building in Venice. Dating back to 1092, Saint Marks Basilica, is an incredible piece of architecture and one of Northern Italy’s most important religious buildings.

The basilica is in the Piazza San Marco (Saint Mark’s Square) and easily accessible by the Grand Canal. Don’t miss out on a visit inside the basilica. With more than 8,000 square metres of mosaic, 500 columns, and stunning Crusade treasures to explore, it’s a sight to behold. For the night owls, visit Saint Mark’s Square and the basilica (exterior) at midnight for a crowd-free late-night walk.

Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs

Close to Saint Marks Basilica is the ornate Doge Palace, which looks out to the Grand Canal. The palace is impressive and has several gloriously decorated rooms with original detailing, furniture and artworks.

The Doge’s Palace was also where justice was administered and as a result the palace is connected to the Prigioni Nuove prison by the Bridge of Sighs. Legend has it that Lord Byron coined the name “Bridge of Sighs” because the criminals being taken from the palace and over the bridge to the prison would sigh at their last glimpse of Venice.

Murano and Burano

Take a break from Venice and steer your Le Boat toward the islands of Murano and Burano. Murano is famous for its glass blowing and Burano for its colourful fisherman’s cottages and delicate Burano lace.

With Le Boat, you can enjoy cruising from three to fourteen nights across some of Italy’s most beautiful locations. Visit the traditional town of Casier and the peaceful island of Torcello, sail the Grand Canal in Venice, cycle San Erasmo and discover the Torre Massmiliana (a stronghold built by Napoleon), buy new shoes in Fiesso d’Artico, and witness the archaeological areas around Aquileia.

Le Boat offers a range of itineraries to ensure you make the most of your Italian cruising. Alternatively, Le Boat can help tailor a cruising holiday to suit your needs. Le Boat has over 50 years of boating expertise and offers personalised service and attention to detail. Explore Venice and Friuli with Le Boat, Europe’s number one boating holiday company.
