Door scare makes SIA A380 turn and head for home

egtmedia59Singapore Airlines pilots turned an A380 flight to Hong Kong back to home base at Singapore’s Changi airport on Friday after receiving a warning about a cargo door problem, the airline said.

The flight, carrying 263 passengers, landed safely and the passengers were switched to another flight.

“The Airbus A380 Flight SQ866 from Singapore to Hong Kong returned to Changi Airport this afternoon as a result of a cockpit warning relating to a cargo door,” a Singapore Airlines (SIA) spokesman told local media.

“SIA engineers are currently troubleshooting to find out the cause of why the warning came on.”

Singapore Airlines operates 19 A380s with five others on order.

In January, one of SIA’s A380s made an emergency landing in Azerbaijan after suffering a sudden unexplained drop in cabin pressure. Pictures of passengers wearing oxygen masks flashed around the world on social media.

The airline said subsequently that its investigation into that incident was focusing on a main deck door that had apparently suffered a leak.
