Doubletree establishes  in landmark building

In a development New Zealand’s capital has been eagerly awaiting, Hilton has confirmed it will finally establish a presence in Wellington, as the city’s landmark T&G building converts into a hotel.

The property will be New Zealand’s third DoubleTree by Hilton, one of Hilton’s 14 distinct brands. The signing is a franchise agreement with Sarin Investments to operate DoubleTree by Hilton Wellington. The seven-story hotel, expected to open in late 2017, is located on Lambton Quay, the main street of downtown Wellington.

“DoubleTree by Hilton Wellington is a wonderful addition to our growing portfolio of hotels across Australasia,” Dianna Vaughan, senior vice president and global head, DoubleTree by Hilton, commented.

“The hotel boasts an ideal location for both the business and leisure traveller with close proximity to the central business district and walking distance to the celebrated Te Papa Museum, the iconic cable car, numerous unique shops and vibrant cafes.”

The property is currently undergoing extensive work converting the iconic T&G Building to a hotel which will offer 108 rooms, including 21 suites, a restaurant, bar, boardroom and gym.

Robert Scullin, vice president, development Australasia, Hilton, said the hotel chain was committed to growing Hilton’s presence in New Zealand.

“The signing of DoubleTree by Hilton Wellington is integral to our regional portfolio expansion plans for the country, which focus on the key cities as well as the leisure destinations across both the North and South Islands of New Zealand,” Scullin said.
