A group of locals is bringing the old-school drive-in cinema back to Bangalow, a town famous for its annual Billycart Derby, Sample Food Festival and BBQ & Bluegrass Festival.
This coming ANZAC Day long weekend (the last weekend of the NSW April school holidays), Flicks in the Field is bringing the drive-in to Bangalow with a Family Night on Friday the 22nd, and a double helping of outback road-trip madness on Saturday the 23rd at the Bangalow Showground.
“We have an absolutely brilliant Showground in Bangalow and it’s been screaming out for some occasional after dark, community fun”, said Dan Hill, Flicks in the Field founder.
“We tested the idea on a few of our friends and families who all gave it the thumbs-up. One thing lead to another and – Presto! – we have a drive-in on our hands”, he continued.
Colleague, Anthony Lycenko, added, “Just about everyone of our generation has fond memories of being bundled into the family car with blankets and pillows, and heading off to see the latest blockbuster at the local drive-in. We might be showing our ages a bit, but this is a nostalgia-fuelled event that’ll show the younger crew something new. With plenty of room for walk-ins on the grass in front of the jumbo screen, and cars in sweeping arcs behind them, refreshments, popcorn, choc-tops and treats, we expect Flicks in the Field to deliver an absolutely authentic drive-in vibe.”
