Amadeus has formed partnerships with two companies in a drive make airport shuttle and intercity bus rides easily bookable by travel agents, “as simple, accessible and convenient as booking a flight”.

“With content, search, booking, payment, ticketing and settlement capabilities covered, travel agencies can focus on adapting this new offer to travellers, and in turn, bus companies will be more visible to new customers in new channels,

ultimately driving sales growth,” an Amadeus statement said yesterday.

All aboard

The two companies involved are Distribusion, a global distributor for airport shuttle and intercity bus rides, and Betterez, a reservations and ticketing management technology company. The aims is to make the bus booking process easy.

The Australian bus and coach industry services more than 1.5 billion passenger trips per year and is worth more than AUD 10 billion to the Australian economy, through its economic contribution to passenger transport, tourism and the Australian bus manufacturing sectors, Amadeus said yesterday.

“With shifting market dynamics and new competition, as travellers look to buses as an attractive and cheaper travel alternative to cars, bus operators and retailers will need to invest in new technology to improve their overall offer and create a ‘door-to-door’ travel experience.”

Amadeus says its new partnerships will give bus operators “the complete package to unlock growth and make significant footprint in the global travel industry”.

“With Distribusion bringing over 300 airport bus transfer and intercity bus operators in 2500 destinations to Amadeus’ travel seller network, a single gateway to this content will allow reduce costly one-to-one setups with travel agencies, and enable bus companies to become more visible to new customers.

“In addition, Betterez’ innovative, end-to-end sales, operation and back office platforms for bus operators, will help them to drive customer loyalty, efficiency and revenue.”

Market liberalisation and growing competition are making bus travel an increasingly promising travel alternative, according to Amadeus.

“Currently, Amadeus travel sellers in central, eastern and southern Europe can access Distribusion bus content with more across the world expected to join soon.

“Betterez now brings an innovative, end-to-end sales, operation and back-office platform for bus operators. The platform allows them to better sell, manage and promote their offer both in their direct channels, but also in new ones, including

Amadeus’ travel seller network. Betterez’ expertise in the market can help them drive customer loyalty, efficiency and revenue.”
