Dubai Airports’ delightful video of the exploits of Pedro the Penguin at Dubai International has won the Best YouTube Campaign at ‘The Moodies’, the 2015 airport digital, mobile and social media awards. The winning and highly commended awards were selected from 97 shortlisted entries across 14 categories.
The social media campaign, which was aimed at highlighting the amazing range of options in food and beverage, shopping, relaxation and services available at Dubai International, featured a colourful and quirky video depicting the exploits of Pedro the Penguin as he ventures from the frozen desolation of Antarctica to tour DXB for the first time. He enjoys his time so much, it doesn’t seem he will ever leave. The campaign was splashed across Dubai Airports’ YouTube and Facebook pages and became a hit internationally garnering more than a million views.
“We are constantly looking at ways to reach out to, and excite and engage our customers through various social media channels, and Pedro the Penguin achieved that for us through our ‘Surprise Guest at DXB’ campaign. It was a very special campaign for us and we are delighted that it has been given this recognition,” said Anita Mehra, Senior Vice President of Communications & Reputation at Dubai Airports.
Dubai Airports’ twitter feed, which has a following of more than a quarter of a million was also highly commended at the awards.
The winners were announced on Monday on The Moodie Report’s website and across the title’s various social media platforms. ‘The Moodies’ are the only industry awards dedicated to digital, mobile and social media activities across airports overall, plus a specific focus on airport retail and food & beverage.
