Dubai Mall blackout prompts new industry

May 2, 2017 Destination Dubai, Headline News No Comments Email Email

All major buildings and landmarks such as tourist, commercial and cultural destinations in Dubai have been instructed to install power backup generators. This follows the  Dubai Mall blackout on April 24 prompting its 1,000-odd commercial outlets to shut their doors. The blackout saw the mall activities coming to a halt with all escalators, elevators and other electric machinery rendered useless.  According to Gulf News, the generators must have the necessary power in emergencies to ensure public security and safety and cover lighting, elevators, escalators, automatic doors, surveillance cameras, alarm systems and fire and safety equipment. The systems must also be properly maintained.
