Dubai Tourism launches inaugural Food Festival with Global Media Culinary Tour of Dubai

Billy Law (A Table For Two) and Helen Yee (Grab Your Fork) at JW Marriott Marquis’ Positano Coastal Italian’s MasterclassDubai Tourism recently organised a global media famil to feature the inaugural Dubai Food Festival. The objective of the ‘Culinary Tour of Dubai’ was to promote the diversity, creativity and multi-cultural nature of Dubai’s culinary offerings and raise awareness of Dubai as one of the emerging gastronomy destinations on the world stage.

The media group included journalists from all over the world, with the target regions, Australia, South Africa, Taiwan, Hong Kong, USA, UK, China, Japan and Italy.

In total, 25 media that joined this trip, with 3 DTCM hosts. DTCM ANZ Director Julie King, travelled to Dubai to host this media Mark Hughes, Selector Magazine (right) at JW Marriott Marquis’ Positano Coastal Italian’s Masterclassgroup in conjunction with DTCM Italy, Alessia Severin, and DTCM USA, Kimberly Miller. The group travelled to Dubai between the 27th of February and the 4th of March. The Australian representatives included Billy Law (past contestant of MasterChef Australia and blogger of A Table for Two), Helen Yee (blogger of Grab Your Fork) and Mark Hughes (Editor of Selector Magazine) travelled to Dubai in partnership with Emirates.

The tallest hotel in the world, JW Marriott Marquis, hosted the group’s stay in Dubai. JW Marriott Marquis also showcased their diverse culinary offerings in hosting the group for a Friday brunch at Prime68 Boutique Steakhouse, a cooking competition at Positano Coastal Italian and a special progressive dinner visiting the key restaurants within the hotel sampling the signature dishes of the dining venues. A special lunch was hosted by renowned Middle Eastern Chef Greg Malouf and JW Marriott Marquis Chef de Cuisine Youssif Issa, who designed a unique menu for the group hosted at JW Marriott Marquis’ signature Middle The Media Group at Dubai CreekEastern restaurant Nawarra.

This exciting culinary focused program included: Lunch at Al Fanar Restaurant & Café, a Secret Dinner with Lime&Tonic at J+A Art Gallery in Al Quoz, and lunch at Burj Al Arab’s Al Mahara.

The Dubai Food Festival events including the Big Grill at Emirates Golf Club, Taste of Peru at Madinat Jumeirah’s Amphitheatre and a dinner at pop-up restaurants, Beach Canteen, at Kite Beach. In addition, the media group also enjoyed visiting the Dubai Mall, “At The Top” Burj Khalifa and an Old Dubai Walking City Tour visiting the Spice Souks. The group toured some of Dubai’s most well-known food production facilities; Bateel Dates Factory Tour viewing the dates and chocolate processing, Al Nassma Camel Milk and Product Farm to visit the resident camels and to view the processing facility for camel milk products, Emirates Catering Facility to view the facility producing the 47 million meals (2013) for passengers on Emirates flights departing Dubai, and a tasting of camel milk products at The Majlis in Dubai Mall.
