Cultural and social dining destination Duddell’s is host to prominent Mainland artist Ai Weiwei’s first curated exhibition in Hong Kong; designed as a response to 13 local artists, the ‘visual dialogue’ is on display from 5 November 2013 to 15 February 2014 enabling patrons of the salon and restaurant to be a part of the contemporary, global art conversation.

Polemical art personality, Ai Weiwei, is one of the most talked about and revered artists of the 21st century. William Zhao, exhibition organiser, said, ‘ While Ai Weiwei has collaborated on previous exhibitions in Hong Kong, we invited him to be the sole curator of this particular exhibition not only because he is one of the most talented artists of our time but his body of work is so impactful that he attracts new international audiences to interact with the Chinese art movement.’ Ai Weiwei’s artistic voice is certainly one of the region’s loudest.

Ai Weiwei has conceptually cooperated with neighbouring Hong Kong artists to create the exhibition. The participating artists, including Kingsley Ng, Kitty Chou, anothermountainman and MAP Office, are uniquely and temporarily presented in a framed state of existence  further establishing Framed: Ai Weiwei and Hong Kong artists  as the must-see Chinese exhibition of 2013. Alan Lo, Co-Founder of Duddell’s, said, ‘The concept behind Duddell’s is to provide an inspiring backdrop against which creative ideas can be shared and developed. Our guests appreciate art, thus, we feel that art of this standard elevates their dining experience.’

Contributing to the importance of Hong Kong as a gateway to the most important trends in Asian contemporary art today, the exhibition, private collections and the year-long art programme at Duddell’s invites patrons into the dining rooms and salons of collectors and artists alike.

Come to the table to be a part of the conversation.
