Dynamic Sales Professionals Join The New Hyatt Times Square

Klair Johnston, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hyatt Times Square, announces the appointment of two experienced hospitality sales professionals to her sales and marketing team for the hotel.

Slated to open in December 2013, the new Hyatt Times Square will provide business and leisure travelers with a sophisticated home in the heart of the Theater District, just steps from many of Manhattan’s top attractions.

“Both of the new members of our sales team bring valuable experience, contacts and skills that will augment the success of the Hyatt Times Square,” said Johnston. “We are all thrilled to be involved with the launch of this fantastic property.”

Karen Genauer, Senior Sales Manager
Karen Genauer, Senior Sales Manager, brings more than 11 years of Hyatt experience in catering and sales as well as in-depth knowledge of domestic and global markets to the Hyatt Times Square team. Recognized for her award-winning performance in catering, sales and sales training, Genauer will direct the hotel’s corporate and leisure travel.

Genauer began her Hyatt career at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City in 2002 where she quickly rose through the ranks from Catering Manager to Senior Sales Manager overseeing business travel. She has received numerous awards, including Business Travel Sales Manager of the Year, Outstanding Sales Production awards from 2003 to 2007 and a Hyatt Master for three years. Genauer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel/Business Management from the New York Institute of Technology, studied at the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne in Switzerland, and worked as an international group and event coordinator at the Hotel Institute of Montreux.

Klas Takkel, Associate Director of Sales
Klas Takkel, Associate Director of Sales, has progressed quickly during his eight years in the hospitality industry. Takkel began his career with Hyatt in 2005 as a Recreation Attendant at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa while completing his Travel Industry Management degree at Hawaii Pacific University. Since then, Klas has worked in various positions with Marriott and Hilton in Hawaii, New Jersey and the United Kingdom. He returned to the Hyatt family in 2008 as Director of Sales at Hyatt Place Secaucus/Meadowlands before being promoted to Area Director of Sales for HYATT House Morristown & Parsippany/Whippany.

Blending his experience in the hotel industry with the leadership and team-building skills gained as captain of a semi-professional hockey team in Sweden, Takkel will be responsible for building the hotel’s group and meetings business.

Many features are unique in this neighborhood, such as the full floor, windowed fitness club, extensive spa and meeting space with outdoor function space as well as our exciting rooftop bar on the 54th floor with fireplaces and terrace with spectacular views.”

The 487-room Hyatt Times Square is designed with a dramatic, creative vibe that fits well in its Theater District locale. The hotel’s trendy diner, chic rooftop lounge, state-of-the-art fitness center and spa will make the landmark 54-story property a social hub for the area, while its 8,000 square feet of group space—including a 1,900-square-foot ballroom and 1,400-square-foot outdoor terrace–will provide the dramatic settings for weddings, meetings and other gatherings.
