unnamed (30)One of Europe’s leading self-guided holiday operators, On Foot Holidays, is offering five per cent off this year’s prices for any of their 24, self-guided walking tours in 2016 which enable travellers to explore a range of destinations including Italy, the French Alps, Austria, Croatia, Spain, Portugal and England.

The special early-bird discount is valid for On Foot Holidays’ range of iconic walking tours next year booked before June 30, 2015.

One of the most popular hiking routes for Australians is the Amalfi Coast self-guided route, with On Foot Holidays one of the few companies offering a continuous walking itinerary from Amalfi to Sorrento. The ‘inn-to-inn’ walk along the stunning Italian coast takes walkers through old fishing towns nestled on the water’s edge, secluded beaches on the San Costanzo peninsula, and along the ‘Path of the Gods’, high above the sea.

The seven-night hike begins at Amalfi, a UNESCO World Heritage site and former trading power during the Middle Ages, known for its elaborate architecture. The following days will feature two walking circuits, including visits to the tranquil Villa Cimbrone Gardens and Torre dello Ziro, a castle overlooking the bay. Hikers will then journey westwards along old medieval pathways, visiting the towns of Praiano, Positano, Sant’ Agata and finish at Sorrento, overlooking the bay of Naples.

Upgrades and add-ons to the tour are also available, including additional nights in the coastal towns and an extension to the island of Capri. The walk’s final destination, Sorrento, can provide a base from which to visit Pompeii, Vesuvius and Naples.

An ideal way to explore the Amalfi coast without bumper-to-bumper traffic, the self-guided walk is classified as multi-graded, with options available to suit different walking abilities. The peninsula bus system means that walking days (usually two to seven hours) can be shortened or omitted as needed by hikers. On Foot Holidays suggests April, May, June, September and October as the best months to hike along the Amalfi Coast.

Including seven nights’ accommodation in well-located and friendly hotels, all breakfasts and all luggage transfers, allowing travellers to just carry a day pack, the package costs from £693.50 (approximately A$1346 depending on exchange rates) per person, twin-share, including the five per cent early bird discount if booked by June 30, 2015, using the code ‘PPR15’ when booking. A £210 single room supplement is also available. Prices vary from low to high seasons.

Based in the UK and specialising in the ‘art of slow travel’, On Foot Holidays offers walkers around the world 24 self-guided tours across unspoilt areas of Europe for independent travellers who prefer intimate encounters with destinations. Walkers can select their own departure dates and all routes are designed by locals and tested by staff from On Foot Holidays.
