Cruises from 10 to 19 nights are available from Ushuaia or Punta Arenas from October 15, 2016, to March 27, 2017, aboard two former scientific research vessels, Akademik Ioffe or Akademik Sergey Vavilov.

One of the many cruises available through Active Travel is a 10-day Antarctic Peninsula Adventure voyage from Ushuaia aboard Akademik Ioffe. The journey will include visits to all the classic landing locations along the Antarctica Peninusla and Gerlache Strait coastline, including Paradise Habour, Neko Harbour and Cuverville Island – known for its breeding colony for thousands of gentoo penguins. Other planned highlights include visits to the scientific base at Verndasky and the historic explorers’ hut, Wordie House. The journey will finish with a day in the South Shetland Islands. The ten-day cruise is available on dates in December, 2016, and February and March, 2017, and costs from US$10,095, twin-share.

Other Antarctic offerings include the comprehensive, 18-day ‘Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctic’ voyage and a 10-night ‘Christmas in Antarctica’ cruise for the ultimate white Christmas with 24 hour daylight.

Also available is a new, time-saving 10-night ‘Quest for the Antarctic Circle’ cruise aboard Akademik Sergey Vavilov, which takes passengers deeper into Antarctica, with connecting, included flights between Chile, the Falkland Islands and King George Island to cut time spent in the Drake Passage at sea. Departures from Punta Arenas are available in January and February, 2017, with fares from US$12,095 per person, twin-share.

Flights from Australia are extra but for Antarctica cruises booked before December 1, 2015, Active Travel will provide a A$1000 per person air credit to be used for international flights booked through Active Travel and a two-night stopover in Buenos Aires or Santiago, which includes accommodation in a four-star hotel, half day city tour and transfers.
