Eaton Workshop, Sally Coco and Reel Women Hong Kong will bring a groundbreaking new Women’s Festival to the city from 1 – 9 September 2018.

The festival marks Hong Kong’s first dedicated event for local Hong Kong women, exclusively focused on the celebration of women’s power and individuality through live music, film screenings, holistic wellness offerings, thought-provoking panel discussions, skincare workshops and more. Curated panel discussions and seminars, helmed by pioneering experts and influencers, will open up dialogue around diversity inclusion, Hong Kong education reform, the #METOO movement, women in protest and non-violent communication. The women’s festival will partner with field experts, such as Hong Kong’s only dedicated rape crisis center Rainlily, to facilitate progressive dialogue around each meaningful topic.

A wide-ranging selection of workshops will invite both men and women to explore wellness, communication, relationships, motherhood, sensuality, menopause and self-defense in the context of self-love and positive relationship building. From partner yoga to guided bondage workshops, The Women’s Festival will deliver an exploratory experience to suit participants from all walks of life.

The nearly 100% Cantonese program will also feature one of the only Cantonese performances of the internationally-acclaimed The Vagina Monologues, as well as a roster of screenings of female-directed films exploring a range of topics related to women, including the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival’s Best Documentary Film, Small Talk (Director Hui-Chen HUANG, Taiwan), 29+1 (Director Kearen Pang, Hong Kong), The Gulls (Director Ella Manzheeva, Russia), Faces Place- Visages Et Villages (Directors Agnès Varda and JR, France), The Helper (Directors Joanna Bowers, Hong Kong) and Private Violence (Director Cynthia Hill, USA).

Hong Kong Women’s Festival’s mission is to promote gender awareness and equality in society. The event will start a dialogue around the important issues, experiences and perspectives of women, and celebrate womanhood through a range of art forms. Co-organized by Vera Lui (founder of Sally Coco), Chantal Wong (Eaton HK’s Director of Culture), and Sonia Wong (founder of Reel Women Hong Kong), the festival was created after identifying a void in local culture for women to feel comfortable to  freely explore their individuality and curiosity.

“We hope to help incorporate sex-positivism and art into the daily lives of women of all backgrounds, from full time moms to young women finding themselves and beyond”, says Sally Coco founder, Vera Lui. “With this event, people of all genders and backgrounds will walk away recognizing and celebrating the power, beauty and freedom of being yourself.”

The nine-day festival will be hosted at Eaton HK, a new hotel in Hong Kong’s Jordan neighborhood, from Eaton Workshop, Katherine Lo’s global purpose-driven company focused on the intersection between culture, content, wellness, hospitality and social impact.
