Ed Smith Bows Out After 42 Years

LONG time industry identity Ed Smith has sold Canada & Alaska Specialist Holidays to boutique wholesaler CIT Holidays.

A Canadian who has been in Australia and the travel industry here for 42 years, Smith was a front-runner in the 1980’s in promoting Canada as a primary destination for Australian holidaymakers, rather than as an add-on to travel to the USA.

His long involvement in the industry here included 8 years with Trafalgar Tours, establishing the Canada & Alaska program at Adventure World and its nine years as a leading Canada operator, two years with Cunard, and he then set up the North America division of talPacific Holidays before starting his own Canada & Alaska Specialist Holidays in 2006.

Speaking of her delight with the acquisition of Canada & Alaska Specialist Holidays, Kate Newsom, Commercial Director for CIT said: “As niche specialists in holidays to Europe, in particularly Italy & Switzerland, we already deal with a similar demographic to that of the Canada & Alaska team. We see this as both an expansion of our business and a diversification to what we already do, with Canada and Alaska – two of the hottest destinations for Australians travelling overseas”.

“Our concept is to concentrate on FIT’s with itinerary planning the key. The Canada & Alaska team will focus on enriching the holidays of Australians by offering itineraries that are personally designed around the needs and interests of the client, highlighting unique and off the beaten track Canada and Alaska experiences.”

C&A Specialist Holidays have moved into the CIT Holidays offices at 309 George Street, Sydney, with its four Canada & Alaska specialists looking forward to assisting agents in all aspects of their bookings to those destinations. They can be contacted on 1 300 794 959 or

Ed Smith has also contracted to remain as an advisor as needed.
