El Questro Welcomes Its 25th Season

February 3, 2017 Hotel Deals No Comments Email Email

Opened in 1992, the iconic El Questro pioneered refined comfort in the outback. Over the past two and half decades, the resort has firmly established itself as a icon in Western Australia  and one of Australia’s most spectacular outback destinations. This April marks its 25th season that El Questro will re-open after the wet season to welcome visitors to experience its long-standing magic in the magnificent Kimberley.

The history of El Questro started all the way back to 1958 when Torrance MacMiking and Morris Marshall took over the lease on this very special parcel of land, previously called Spurling’s Pocket and lodged a pastoral claim and named the property El Questro. Several owners later, British aristocrat Will and Celia Burrell recognised its potential for tourism and purchased this once run-down cattle station in 1991.

“When Celia and I discovered El Questro, it took us four hours to drive from Kununurra to the Station Township but the drive was well worth it. We were simply gobsmacked by its beauty. Celia and I had this vision to provide a destination for anyone who has a sense of adventure while offering them the option of comfort“, says Will Burrell.

Delaware North Australia Parks & Resorts has been carrying this vision through since its takeover in March 2010. Over the past six years, it has developed new experiences such as Buddy’s Point lookout in memory of local legend Buddy Tyson and the Cockburn sunset tour. It has also expanded El Questro Station precinct and reintroduced Emma Gorge as a holiday leisure and day trip destination and built 3 new world class accommodations named  the Cliffside Retreats at the Homestead

By understanding the values and connection to the land, Delaware North has established a strong relationship with The Wandjina Aboriginal people and the Kimberley. It was arguably the first tourism business to have meetings with native title groups. El Questro Homestead has also joined Luxury Lodges of Australia, further showcasing Australia’s extraordinary regional diversity and experiential high-end travel offering. Its persistent effort on exceeding guests’ expectations has led to a number of awards since its takeover seven years ago.

El Questro now boasts four varied accommodation options – The Homestead is an exclusive luxury retreat situated atop the Chamberlain Gorge; Emma Gorge Resort offers comfortable accommodation in superior safari style Tented Cabins; The Station, located at the central hub of El Questro, provides air-conditioned resort style bungalow accommodation while The Black Cockatoo Campground is equipped with new architect-designed shower blocks and camp kitchens with BBQ’s and laundries.

The Homestead and Station will reopen on the 1st April 2017 to be followed by Emma Gorge Resort on 13th April. Emma Gorge closes on 30th September followed by The Homestead and The Station on 22nd October 2017.
