The Shanghai EDITION’s premier club and VIP lounge, Electric Circus, celebrates its first anniversary on 11th October with a series of shindigs, with Nick Monaco, co-founder of Unisex Records, leading the charge with a Golddust Disco-themed show. Illuminating the Bund with a transcendent night on the dance floor, the arrival of the international DJ attracted the city’s movers and shakers, including Unine team member Yao Ming-Ming, Jia Yi, and He Chang-Xi, for an unforgettable evening of electronic dance music.
Widely-recognized as one of the prominent DJs, young virtuoso Nick Monaco is known for his tantalizing and distinct style of turntablism that his debut album has been praised by Vibe magazine. A versatile performer, he blends a sense of playfulness in his music to convey a gender-neutral atmosphere, creating provocative sets that challenge traditional notions of gender. Nick fired up an exciting and daring performance, bringing guests an exhilarating experience befitting Electronic Circus’ first anniversary.
The celebration continues with a series of sensational themed nights lined up, each helmed by an acclaimed DJ. Z-Trip and Roy NG will take turns spinning for electrifying dance parties in town, showcasing the collective magic of light, energy and rhythm.
Legendary DJ Z-Trip, otherwise known as Rick Rubin, will host a Gold Digger-themed party on October 12. Credited with pioneering mashups, Z-Trip will be mixing hip-hop and other music styles to bring the audience a thrilling live performance at Electric Circus. Voted America’s Best DJ, he has produced music with artists across different genres including LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Kasabian and Dan the Automator.
In addition, Roy NG will take over the DJ booth on October 19 for a fun, stimulating trip down memory lane – The VHS Tapes Memories Night. From disco and funk to house and techno, Roy’s diverse music will bring guests back to the frenetic decades of the ’80s and ’90s for an entertaining retro throwback. A 20-year-veteran of Singapore’s buzzing nightlife scene, Roy is the owner and resident DJ of Canvas, where he has crafted a distinctive club culture and a destination for electronic music in the Lion City.
Conceived in the Studio 54 tradition, Electric Circus is located on the seventh floor of the Heritage Building of The Shanghai EDITION. Its hybrid of old and new creates a multi-sensory experience on the bustling Nanjing Road East. Inside, dramatic lighting effects and projections were designed by eminent lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe, who has worked with such celebrities as Adele, Bob Dylan, Elton John and Lady Gaga. In this atmospheric nightclub, guests are immersed in exciting music experiences brought by top local and international DJs, artists and performers. Electric Circus has also served as an arena for celebrated DJs including Benji B, Jason Swamy and Allan Marshall. During every Friday and Saturday, a variety of themed music parties alternate, invites popular DJs to delight hip-hop fans in town and brings pleasure to a group of house and techno music fans. Since its opening last year, Electric Circus has become a must-visit destination and an icon of Shanghai’s nightlife scene.
