Elvis To The Max Farewell Tour

September 8, 2017 Whats On No Comments Email Email

After 30 years and 30 Australian tours, Elvis impersonator Max Pellicano’s Thank You Very Much The Farewell Tour lands at Twin Towns on Friday, September 22.

It will be fans last chance to see the Detroit entertainer in The Showroom, wearing replica costumes crafted by Elvis’s costume maker Bill Bellow and performing all the hits they know and love.

“You know it’s going to be a little sad for me,’’ said Pellicano, a favourite in the US, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore.

“I’ve made so many friends all over Australia and Coolangatta is always special with that great big room that’s always full of people.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again so I can perform for them for one last time. It’s my way of saying thanks.’’

Pellicano started out performing Elvis covers in a resident band at a Holiday Inn in California before moving onto bigger stages in Las Vegas.

He made his first trip to Australia for sellout shows in the late 1980s and has been back every year.

When Pellicano launched his career there were about 700 Elvis impersonators working around the world. At last count, the number was more like 880,000 and climbing closer to the million mark each day.

“I’m a grandfather now so it’s only natural I want to spend some time closer to home or I’m going to miss out,’’ he said.

Pellicano still relishes performing as The King though he’s had some strange requests.

“People want you to marry them, some even ask if you’ll bless their children,’’ he said,

“I politely decline. You need a special permit for that sort of thing. I apologise nicely and say no, I’m not a preacher, I’m not a priest.’’

Though Pellicano is cutting back on the international tours, he’ll continue to perform as Elvis in the US.

“There I can pack the car with all the costumes and drive to the next show. ‘’

Pellicano promises he’ll back – next time without the Elvis jump suits and Hawaiian shirts.

“I fallen in love with Australia, as you might have guessed by the number of times I’ve been there,’’ he said.

“I’d love to come for a real holiday, to see places I always wanted to see but never really had the time to visit because I was working.’’

Elvis to the Max: Thank You Very Much. The Farewell Tour: Friday, 22 September, 8.30pm, from $60
