Email circulates in advance of Qantas financial results

August 26, 2014 Aviation, Headline News No Comments Email Email

egtmedia59Qantas is set to announce it annual financial results this Thursday and analysts are predicting the news will not be good.

An indication of likely cutbacks to Qantas international operations has been sent to cabin crew working in that division.

In his Plane Talking blog on Crikey.com.au, aviation reporter Ben Sandilands has written of an email sent to employees, which “appears to be a http://www.eastinhotelsresidences.com/softening up exercise”.

It concludes by urging those affected by the group results announcement to access call lines after full details are revealed on 28 August 2014.

The email, two paragraphs of which have been published by Sandilands, is said to be from a middle level Qantas executive. It begins:

“On 28 August we will announce the Qantas Group’s results for the 2013/2014 financial year. Before our focus shifts to this announcement, I wanted to take a moment to say a sincere thank you.

“Over the last year we have faced the most challenging operating environment in our history. This environment is driven by a number of elements outside of our control, in particular the increase in fuel prices against a weakening Australian dollar, and growth in international capacity.”

The email then runs through the achievements of international cabin crew over the financial year, and makes clear that further sacrifices and productivity gains will be required, Sandilands writes.

The email ends by urging staff to dial in to one of two service team updates booked for a mass dial in during the morning and early evening of 28 August after the announcements have been made.

The email also notes (without directly discussing them) that analysts have predicted bad results for the Qantas Group on the day, Sandilands concludes.
