Emirates Brings Dubai to the Australian Open and Helps Future Golfing Stars Shine

BEmirates has helped kick start the future careers of some budding golfing pros as well as unveiled features of its home city with a Dubai-themed Marquee and lavish Lifestyle Booth for golf fans to enjoy at the 2013 Emirates Australian Open in Sydney.

Leading international players Rory McIlroy and Aaron Baddeley ran the Emirates Junior Golf Clinic, teaching 300 children from interstate and regional areas as well as Sydney, to hit a golf ball like a pro. Yesterday also marked the unofficial start to the tournament at the Royal Sydney Golf Club, with the Pro-Am allowing amateur golfers to have a game with the professionals.

“It’s a pleasure to be back once again at Royal Sydney, the perfect setting to host one of the most prestigious golfing tournaments on the sporting calendar,” said Barry Brown, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations East.J

“As a partner of the event since 2009, we are dedicated to the game of golf in Australia and are delighted to host not only adult golfing fans but children as well, with 300 children attending the Emirates Junior Golf Clinic yesterday with Rory and Aaron. Through the Emirates Australian Open and our many other commitments to the community, we’re able to showcase the Emirates brand to golf lovers not only in Sydney, but around the country,” added Mr Brown.

Emirates has modelled this year’s guest marquee on what was recently seen at the Emirates Melbourne Cup, inspired by the east meets west city hub and cosmopolitan travel destination, Dubai. Emirates is pulling out all the stops to provide a truly unique experience for guests and fans alike at both the exclusive Marquee, and the on-course Lifestyle Booth.

The Emirates’ Marquee located alongside the 18th hole affords spectacular views of both the tee and green and has been transformed to simulate the airline’s home and hub of Dubai, which was recently announced as Host City for Expo 2020. Moving LCD screens will depict some of the cosmopolitan city’s famous scenes, as well as the Emirates A380 on-board experience. The Dubai theme was chosen to celebrate the renewed focus on the destination since the announcement of the ground-breaking partnership with Qantas.

“With more and more Australians visiting Dubai as a destination in its own right, and as a perfect stopover en-route to more than 130 Emirates destinations around the world, there is no better time to celebrate Dubai as the theme for the Emirates Australian Open Marquee,” said Mr Brown.

Emirates’ guests will be served from a menu inspired by the diverse flavours of the Emirati culture combining the international flavour of the Dubai’s Acuisine with classic Middle Eastern dishes. It has been carefully developed by Epicure catering in conjunction with Emirates’ own Dubai-based Arabic cuisine expert, Nasser Iskeirjah.

On the course, fans can enjoy the Lifestyle Booth, returning to the Open after a successful first year in 2012. The booth will provide plenty of space to relax, occupying a 6×10 metre area – the largest site to date to grace the Open. Guests will feel at home as they enjoy the live feed on 50” plasma screens, free Wi-Fi and refreshments at their leisure.  Cabin Crew will also be on hand serving Arabic coffee and dates, providing a real taste of the Dubai experience.

Held from 28 November until 1 December 2013, the Emirates Australian Open will host an impressive field of play once again, including reigning US Masters Champion and recent Australian PGA and Australian Masters winner Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day, as well as six former Open champions – Greg Chalmers, John Senden, Aaron Baddeley, Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby and 2012 champion, Peter Senior, as they prepare to battle it out to take home the Stonehaven Cup.
