Fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series can sit back, and look forward to watching every film in the epic, cinematic spectacle created by multi-award winning director Peter Jackson. The series first broke ground in 2001 with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, when it set box-office records and gained a cult following, to the most recent release The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in 2014. Now, customers can follow the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and Frodo in the complete The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series on ice Digital Widescreen, over the span of 17 epic hours, equivalent to a flight from Dubai to Los Angeles.

This series is another example of the rich content that customers can enjoy on their Emirates flights. In the past, ice Digital Widescreen has also shown the complete Harry Potter series, and fans of World Cinema can enjoy the famous French ‘Three Colours trilogy’ – Blue, White and Red by famed director Krzysztof Kieslowski, also launching in April. With over 500 films in over 35 languages to choose from, customers can check what’s showing on board their flight and plan their ice movie marathon before they fly by visiting emirates.com.

In 2014, ice Digital Widescreen was awarded the ‘World’s Best Airline Inflight Entertainment’ award at the SKYTRAX World Airline Awards for the 10th consecutive year.Customers can enjoy a staggering choice of over 2,000 channels of entertainment, with over 500 movies from around the world, hundreds of hours of TV including box-sets of popular shows like Mad Men Season 7, Downton Abbey Season 5, The Walking Dead Season 5 and The Big Bang Theory Season 7 and thousands of hours of music from contemporary to classical.

Emirates’ new Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft offer the ice system on larger personal TV screens with HD resolution: 27-inch in First Class, 20-inch in Business Class and 12.1 inch in Economy Class.
