This month Emirates, Worldwide Partner and the Official Airline of Rugby World Cup 2015, has announced it will be kicking off a special tour of the Webb Ellis Cup, bringing the cup to rugby fans across four countries. Beginning on 29 April in Dubai, the Webb Ellis Cup is set to visit Sydney from May 5-7, 2015.
The tour includes nations that have been successful in winning the coveted trophy, including New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. In each of these countries renowned Rugby stars will host a number of activities that will put rugby at the forefront of people’s minds during the coming months and will give fans the opportunity to see the Webb Ellis Cup firsthand.
Connecting fans to their passion, Emirates has arranged for rugby stars Richard Kahui and George Gregan to undertake a range of activities in their home countries. The appearances will allow their legions of fans to once again witness their favourite rugby players holding aloft the Webb Ellis Cup.
The schedule for the tour is as follows:
- 29th April – Dubai, UAE
- 1st May – Auckland, New Zealand
- 5th May – Sydney, Australia
- 26th May – Johannesburg, South Africa
The Rugby World Cup 2015 Trophy Tour brought to Australia by worldwide tournament sponsor Emirates, is designed to give Australians the chance to view the trophy up close and see what the nation will be cheering for come 23rd September when Australia kicks off their Rugby World Cup 2015 campaign in England against Fiji.
As part of Emirates sponsorship of the Rugby World Cup, the airline is offering one lucky Australian teenager a once in the life time opportunity to represent the country at the England vs Australia pool match at Twickenham on Saturday 3rd October as the ‘Australian Flag Bearer’. The prize includes flights to the United Kingdom with Emirates and 5 nights’ accommodation.
Students from across New South Wales participating in the Rugby 7s Tournament will also enjoy the ultimate rugby experience thanks to Emirates. Junior rugby players and fans will be able to see the Webb Ellis Cup, take photos and receive some insight into the sport from legendary halfback George Gregan at an intimate Q&A session at Easts Rugby Club, Woollahra Oval.
Sydneysiders and rugby fans will also have the opportunity to see the Trophy up close and take photos with the Cup at West Circular Quay Lawn Sydney on Wednesday 6th May from 12pm-2pm and also at The Rugby Club Sydney from 3pm-8pm.
Emirates flies to five destinations in the United Kingdom, including London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle, via one convenient stop in Dubai.
