Emirates, the world’s best airline according to Trip Advisor 2017, has announced its plan to launch a new, five times a week, service from Dubai to Santiago International Airport (SCL), via the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, starting on July 5, 2018.

This service will closely follow Emirates’ improvements to their Australian services, including enhanced services to Sydney and Melbourne, giving travellers increased access to their global network.

The addition of Santiago to Emirates’ already vast global network will provide Australian travellers with an unsurpassed cultural experience. Lively and cosmopolitan in nature, Chile is one of the most stable and prosperous nations in South America filled with stunning landscapes, historic beauty, local charm and delectable foods.

Chile has many different adventures to offer tourists: stargazing in the driest desert in the world, millennial glaciers in the southernmost part of the planet, enchanted forests, and lakes located at the foot of massive volcanoes. Chile is also one of the top producers and exporters of wine in the world.

The awe inspiring nature of Chile is ever present in Santiago, the country’s largest city accounting for nearly half of the nation’s GDP. Brimming with variety, Emirates has uncovered Santiago’s five most Instagram friendly attractions that shouldn’t be missed.

1. Valparaíso Valparaíso’s Historical Quarter and Seaport City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site guaranteed to delight photography lovers with its vibrant, colourful Cliffside homes and unrivalled seaside views. Situated 115km outside of Santiago, the cultural hub can be visited in a day trip, or extended weekend for those who have the time.

2. Parque de las Esculturas For the art lover, Santiago’s open air Sculpture Park museum showcases sculptures by influential Chilean and International artists, all photo-worthy in their own right. The perfect location for a slow afternoon, visitors should make sure they have their camera handy and a picnic lunch to enjoy among the spectacular surrounds.

3. Cerro San Cristóbal For Instagram worthy panoramic views of Santiago, travellers needn’t look any further than the many viewpoints of Cerro San Cristóbal. Beyond the sweeping views of the city below, the park also offers attractions including the statue of the Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción and the Chilean National Zoo.

4. Cajón del Maipo Located just 25 kilometres southwest of Santiago, the picturesque Cajón del Maipo canyon is the perfect day trip for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for an off-the- beaten-track experience. Among the sensational scenery and rolling mountains, visitors can enjoy a range of activities including hiking, rafting or a visit to the Hot Springs.

5. Cerro Santa Lucía An urban oasis, Cerro Santa Lucía (Santa Lucia Hill) offers stunning views over Santiago and the Andes mountains. Those strolling through the trails are greeted with a range of chapels and terraces, including the impressive Terraza Neptuno and its ornate architecture, fountains and greenery.

The new service will see Emirates fly an additional five times a week to Sao Paulo, complementing the airline’s existing daily A380 flight between Dubai and Sao Paulo. In total, Emirates will now fly 12 times a week to Sao Paulo. Emirates’ Santiago flight will be a linked service with Sao Paulo, meaning that customers in South America can now travel between the two cities in unprecedented style and comfort.

The new route will be operated with a two-class configured Boeing 777-200LR which offers 38 Business Class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration and 264 seats in Economy Class. The new 777 flight will also offer up to 14 tonnes of capacity for cargo, opening up access to more global markets for Chilean exports such as fish, seafood, cherries, flowers and general perishable goods.

Flight EK263 will depart Dubai on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturday and Sundays at 09:05hrs local time, arriving in Sao Paulo at 17:00, before departing again at 18:30 and arriving into Santiago at 21:40 on the same day.

The return flight EK264 will depart Santiago on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturday and Sundays at 01:10 local time, arriving in Sao Paulo at 05:55. EK264 will depart once again from Sao Paulo at 07:45 bound for Dubai where it will arrive at 05:15 the next day.
