Enforcement of Internal Security Act to Be Extended

April 30, 2014 Destination Thailand No Comments Email Email

The Cabinet has decided to extend the Internal Security Act (ISA) in Bangkok and its adjacent provinces for another 61 days, from 1 May – 30 June 2014.

The decision was made at the Cabinet meeting, held at the National Science Museum, Khlong 5, Khlong Luang district, PathumThani province, on 28 April 2014.

The enforcement of ISA, which began in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Bang Phli district in Samut Prakan, and Lat Lum Kaeo district in Pathum Thani on 19 March 2014, is due to expire on 30 April 2014.

The ISA extension came as political movements persist and there might be possible confrontations between opposing political factions and subsequent disorder.

The ongoing anti-government demonstration continues to take place peacefully inside the Lumphini Park on Rama IV Road and the Government Complex on Chaeng Watthana Road, as well as some small areas on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue and Phitsanulok Road.

The anti-government demonstrators are occasionally mobilizing demonstration marches to some locations in Bangkok during the day as part of their campaign for a political reform before election.
