Engaging Activities During Jazz Market By The Sea 2014

Jazz Market by the Sea, held in Tanjung Benoa, Bali, is scheduled for its fourth annual installment from August 15-17, the weekend of Indonesia’s Independence Day.

The festival will be held at Taman Bhagawan, north of Nusa Dua. Jazz music collaborations are again a big part of the festival, blending jazz with traditional Balinese performance art and music. Among the local influences are the famous kecak dance, the ukulele-like instrument keroncong, and gamelan ensembles.

Organizers take pride in the fact that this year’s Jazz Market by the Sea is more than just a showcase for jazz musicians and includes art and education activities. At the festival will be a music coaching area, where bands and music schools will work with audiences to raise musical awareness and encourage youngsters to consider taking up instruments. Other activities include workshops, discussions and sessions with musicians in which they will share their life story with their fans.

This year has seen new features added to enrich the whole festival. Bali’s original winery, Hatten Wines, will have a grape crushing session. Independence Day Activities such as Panjat Pinang, Lomba Makan Kerupuk, Lomba Balap Karung can also be enjoyed the last day.

The 2014 festival goes green, with Minister of Environment endorsing environmental awareness activities in the 3-day event. Environmental elements will be showcased throughout the event by creating awareness through interactive activities and engagements. Musical performances using recycled goods, nature themed workshop, plant a pot/ interaction with animals/ painting nature and various activities for children, and stalls introducing green or organic products and for the first time, introduce waste management program during the 3-day festival.

As for the festival event’s market, designed to capture the festivity of a replicate traditional pasar seni in Bali (art market);, local vendors will host stalls offering traditional Indonesian cuisine, arts & crafts and fashion and handicrafts. Entertainment for children includes crafts, face painting,  and kite-making, splish splah splosh in the pool and many more….
