Salon 2002 – the soul of Champagne, preview at etc wine shops

etc wine shops is proud to present wine lovers with ‘the soul of Champagne Salon. Salon 2002 (HK$ 3,990 original price) is the first Salon vintage of the 21st century and the very essence of Salon, representing everything Salon has ever stood for. With harvest that began in mid-September, the ideal climate, wavering between cool and warm, allowed the Chardonnay grapes develop richness and power to perfection, making Salon 2002 Le Mesnil-sur-Oger’s greatest triumph.

Salon 2002 is mellow golden in colour and delicate yet lively nose. On the palate, taste the honeyed orange flower, candied citrus fruits and madeleine buns fresh from the oven. On tasting, the wine feels simultaneously rich and restrained. The complexity of the aromas and flavours are almost precision-engineered.

For the very first time in its history, a Champagne House has been chosen by FIFA as the official champagne to be served to guests in FIFA’s VIP and VVIP areas during the two major events of the FIFA agenda. This agreement is a historic event for the whole Champagne region since it marks the recognition of its universal mission, a mission also shared by FIFA through its international work to develop football all over the world.

The historical cuvee, Taittinger Brut Réserve will accompany the worldwide celebration of sport and etc will be among the first to have it in late April. The body is golden yellow in colour and is accompanied by fine bubbles and discreet foam. The nose, very open and expressive, delivers aromas of fruit and brioche. It also gives off the fragrance of peach, white flowers (hawthorn, acacia) and vanilla pod. The entry onto the palate is lively, fresh and in total harmony. This is a delicate wine with flavours of fresh fruit and honey. Taittinger Brut Réserve, which acquires its maturity during three and four years ageing in the cellar, offers excellent aromatic potential.

image004To mark this occasion, Taittinger created the first champagne label in 3D (appreciable without special glasses), a technical feat that makes the bubbles fizz straight from the label.

Champagne Thiénot – the exclusive Oscars and Governors Ball Champagne

Thiénot Champagne comes from the city of Reims, located in the heart of the historic Champagne region. For the last 25 years, Alain Thiénot has shared his knowledge of wine in exchange for the best grapes in the Champagne region. Most of the grapes come from his own vineyards, in the famous Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, while other grapes are specifically sourced to create the best blend of Champagne.

A testament to the quality of Champagne is that for two years running, Thiénot Brut (HK$ 445) has been selected as the exclusive Oscars Champagne, while Thiénot Rosé (HK$ 595) is served at the Governors Ball.
