The Ethiopia Walia Ibex footballers are on the islands to play against the Seychelles national football team on Saturday, in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier first round match.

Present at the airport to welcome the team and their fans were the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange and the principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose. Minister St.Ange said this is a good example of sports tourism in Seychelles.

“It also shows that there is a close working bond between the ministry which I head and the one responsible for sports,” he said.

“Apart from being good for the tourism industry, there is also the cultural aspect. These visitors to our shores will not only enjoy a football match but they will have the chance to experience Seychelles.”

Also arriving with the delegation were the Ethiopian Football Federation’s president Juneidi Basha Tilmo and its vice-president Teklewoini Assefa Hagos, as well as the managing director of Heineken Breweries S.C based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Gerrit Van Loo.
