I-ESC – International Event Safety Conference – Part of Eventplaza on 12 March 2014

The ‘Eventplaza’ trade forum for event management will take place at the same time as Prolight + Sound from 12 to 14 March 2014. For four days, professionals from the sector will be sharing their specialist knowledge with visitors. On the first day of the Eventplaza Conference, the International Event Safety Conference (I-ESC) will create a thematic focus around the issue of safety and security at events. The speakers will provide information in lectures about safety and security concepts for events, the legal framework conditions, evacuation scenarios and sound adjustment. Visitors to Prolight + Sound may attend the Eventplaza Conference and the I‑ESC at no additional cost. Those wishing to attend the I-ESC are requested to register in advance.

The Eventplaza Conference will take place from 12 to 14 March 2014 in Hall 11.0, ‘Granat’ Room, the I-ESC on 12 March 2014 in the Messe Frankfurt Portalhaus, Level ‘Via’.

The programme for the Eventplaza Conference and the I-ESC can be consulted on the website at:

The focus of the lectures at Eventplaza will be new concepts and ideas, as well as trends in communication technology at events and live performances. Contributions will cover areas such as the importance for the events sector of compliance and of seals of compliance, storm and lightning protection at open-air events, as well as the requirements of (German) employment law in relation to the deployment of freelance employees. Another important issue is to what extent environmental and climate protection is compatible with events. There are numerous initiatives in this area that will also be presented at the conference. Equally of interest for visitors will be the new trends in live communications, involving social media and cross-media features at events.

In the lectures at the I-ESC (International Event Safety Conference), the main focus will be on the safety and security aspects of events of all kinds. Topics range from the appropriate numbers of security and rescue personnel to ways of recording the number of people attending and the new provisions of the German regulations governing places of assembly (VStättVO).

So, for example, there will be consideration of the various systems for assessments relating to security and rescue staff at events. There are very often differences of opinion between organisers, operators and officials as regards the appropriate numbers. Equally interesting, in this regard, is the correct measurement of the numbers of visitors – a measurement which depends heavily on the measuring systems used. As well as the legal implications, these figures have a direct effect on things such as traffic infrastructure, admission capacity and catering provision, as well as on the location of the venue.

All visitors to Prolight + Sound may visit the Eventplaza Conference at no extra charge. The I-ESC, too, is free of charge for Prolight + Sound visitors. However, places are limited. For that reason, we request that those who wish to attend register in advance on the website at: There you will also find the I-ESC programme. A simultaneous translation in German will be available to accompany the I-ESC contributions in English.

The I-ESC is organised jointly by Prolight + Sound and the Interest Group of the German Events Industry (Interessengemeinschaft Veranstaltungswirtschaft – IGVW).
