The Shiba Park Hotel in Tokyo announced on November 2 that it will hold events to celebrate the coming of the New Year on January 1, 2017. The events are designed to allow guests from overseas to experience and enjoy celebrating the New Year in Japanese style.
On January 1, 2017, events such as Mochi-tsuki (pounding rice to make rice cakes), Hatsugama (New Year’s first tea ceremony) and Kakizome (New Year’s first writing in Japanese calligraphy) will be held at various locations inside the Shiba Park Hotel. Guests staying at the Shiba Park Hotel, and also at the
Shiba Park Hotel 151, which opened in August 2016, are welcome to join the events without any charge.
President of the Shiba Park Hotel, Rentaro Yanase, said: “Over 80% of guests were from overseas during the New Year of 2016, and we assume it will be the same or more for 2017. I hope to share the delight of traditional Japanese New Year’s celebrations, which will be held by our staff to create an at-home atmosphere, with our guests from overseas.”
The Shiba Park Hotel hopes that all guests will enjoy experiencing the traditional Japanese New Year, and that experience will last as an unforgettable memory of the Shiba Park Hotel.
